Academic Decathlon Success
Although we did not receive a team award this year, there are lots of things to be proud of. First, our overall team score went up by %10 from last year. This number is huge considering that 6/9 students were new.
Also, every single competitor received at least one medal this year. We had a total of 20 individual medals!
Here are the individual medals:
Angelica Marquez: Bronze in Essay; Silver in Art; Bronze in Music
Marissa Banda: Gold in History; Bronze in Science
JD Mendez: Bronze in Economics
Seth Ramirez: Bronze in Interview
Kenny Schneider: Silver in Interview; Silver in Math; Bronze in Economics; Bronze in Art; Coach’s Award
Kori Peterson: Bronze in Art
Anthony Quercia: Gold in Essay; Gold in Economics; Silver in History; Gold in Science; Silver in Art

Academic Decathlon off to a good start
On January 31 the WUHS Acadec Team completed day one of regional competition. Each student gave a speech and had an interview. “I feel very confident with their performances,” Team adviser Gaby Villalobos said. “The students have worked really hard.”
Saturday, February 7th, day two of the competition will be held at the Clovis East high school gym. The “Super Quiz” event starts at 3:30pm, and lasts between 1.5-2 hours. Afterward there will be a two hour break for dinner, where everyone is on their own. The program concludes with an awards ceremony that starts at 7:30 p.m. The event should end about 9:00 p.m.
This years’ academic decathlon team is not only expecting individual success, but a team award as well. They have high expectations and would appreciate it if you could join them at the event. The students on team are:
Angelica Marquez, Marissa Banda, JD Mendez, Kori Peterson, Kenny Schneider, Seth Ramirez, Anthony Quercia, Bobby Ledger, and Darin Guevara

FFA canned food drive feeds six families
On Friday November 21, the FFA delivered Thanksgiving meals to six families in our district. All Ag classes have been collecting cans for the past three weeks. The FFA purchased the turkeys, stuffing, dinner rolls and potatoes. Each of our six feeder schools was asked to pick one needy family to receive a food basket. On Friday, right after school, the baskets were delivered by FFA officers.
