Reading Plus

The Reading Plus program at WUHS is designed for incoming freshmen that are not reading at the 9th grade level.  The program helps these students gain the reading skills necessary to bring them up to grade level by customizing the cirriculum to fit each student’s unique needs.

Each day 15 teachers teach 90-minutes classes that focus on reading and writing skills.  Teachers work with students on an individual basis to design their own personal goals for the year.  Together, they assess their strengths and weaknesses and work on improving their overall language skills.  The open design of the program also allows students to choose their own school-approved reading material.  In the past year alone, students involved in the Reading Plus program have improved by an average of four reading levels (equivalent to two grade levels).
