Football and fashion two words that most people wouldn’t put together, but as of lately the talk is not about how they play or the outcome, it’s the jerseys. Nike has came out with is brand new Nike Pro Combat jerseys and only ten of the NCAA elite teams have them, including Boise and Florida.

Now these jerseys have so much swag it’s unbelievable. These were created by some of Nike  top designers, and not only do they look good but help perform better by them being so tight there is less to grab on to. The dry fit technology keeps them dry and either keep you cool like if you were playing in Texas or  warm if you’re playing in Oregon. Bill Bowermen founder of Nike’s alma mater,  has over 385 different jersey combinations. Most teams only got one combination of jerseys, pants, socks, cleats, helmets, and gloves but the Oregon Ducks.

 “The Oregon ducks new yellow jerseys are best looking in the NCAA”. sophomore DeMelvin Stell said.

Under Armor has also come out with their line of unique jerseys for Maryland, combining there under armor style to the Maryland flag. Their first appearance was a mix match jersey with the helmets two different schemes half and half using the Maryland flag and the opposite on the jersey. Every game they have been coming out with brand new under armor jerseys.

There people in high school taping up there cleats in their school colors. Junior linemen Robert De La Cruz says “I love to look fabulous while I play spating up in pink around my cleats and rists”

Other use accessories like sleeves, tape, hand warmers, towels and visors. October even gave guys ok to wear pink, since its Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

 “Before every Friday night before the game I make sure I have a clean white towel the panther eye black stickers and clean cleats.” Senior QB Christopher Cain said.

“Boise has by far the sickest jerseys there colors go good together.”  Senior K.C. Migliore said

Its October, and you know what that means.. No, not Halloween! A new featured athlete on campus. This month’s featured athlete is Anyssa Taylor. Anyssa is a Senior here on campus and has been here all four year of high school. Her sister is sophomore Tatyana Taylor. Anyssa is a four sport athlete, which means she is always busy. She plays volleyball, basketball, softball, and also participates in track.

She says “My favorite part about playing all four sports is the competition, having fun with my teammates, and winning.” But out of the four sports her favorite is basketball. “I like basketball the most because I grew up playing and watching it.”

 With her busy schedule she still finds time to keep up her grades. Taylor has a 3.8 a grade point average. She is still undecided on which college she wants to go to.

When asked how she manages to keep good grades and play sports her reply was, “By staying focused and having great parents that push me to always do my best.

When Taylor is not playing sports or doing school work she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. Her best friends are Erin Keener and Samantha Mendoza, also two students who are very active in sports.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to Washington Union High School- home of the Proud Panthers! This historic school year has begun with much excitement and momentum. I say historic because this is the first school year that we are a member of Washington Unified School District. We are happy to be a part of the new district and to work with American Union Elementary School, West Fresno Elementary School, and West Fresno Middle School. I am confident that through our cooperative efforts we will build a strong educational program that will result in increased student achievement.

This year is my first as principal of Washington Union and I am proud and honored to serve our students and community. Even though I am the new principal, I am not new to Washington Union. I have worked a total of eleven years at Washington Union. During this time I worked in many different capacities, including: English teacher, soccer coach, Freshman Academy Director, Curriculum Director, and Categorical Projects Director. My personal philosophy is to always put students first, treat those around us with respect and to model behavior that I expect from others. I will share and practice this philosophy with the students and staff of Washington Union High School. During the time I have worked at Washington Union, I have grown to love the school, its students, and the community. I consider Washington Union my second home.

I vow to carry on the traditions set forth by my predecessors and work relentlessly to achieve excellence and make Washington Union the best high school in the Central Valley.

WUSH will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week during the week of Oct. 24th through the 28th
